Position: Guilderland Elementary School is seeking a dependable and student-centered Substitute Teaching Assistant to cover a maternity leave anticipated to be 6-8 weeks. The Substitute Teaching Assistant will support classroom instruction and student needs under the direction of a certified teacher, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment. This is a temporary position for the duration of the leave.
Minimum Qualifications: NYS Teaching Assistant Certification,
Key Responsibilities:
Support the classroom teacher in implementing daily instructional activities and lesson plans
Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning and promote skill development
Assist students with academic, social, behavioral, and/or physical needs as appropriate
Help maintain a safe, structured, and respectful classroom environment
Support classroom routines, transitions, and organization of instructional materials
Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and support staff as needed
Supervise students during lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal, or other assigned times
Maintain student confidentiality and follow all school and district policies
Job Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education or a related field preferred Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting preferred Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills
