About the Leadership Opportunity 

Guilderland Central School District is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking Assistant Superintendent for Business to shape the systems and services that support teaching, learning, and student success. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, this district-level leader will guide financial strategy and non-instructional operations across a highly regarded school community. The role offers the opportunity to pair long-range vision with practical execution, build effective and sustainable systems, and work with a wide range of stakeholders to turn priorities into results. 

Leadership Skill Set 

 System-level leadership and vision: The ability to see across the organization, set direction, align resources with district priorities, and lead complex work from strategy through implementation.

 Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement: Strong written, verbal, and listening skills, with the judgment to communicate clearly and build trust among stakeholders with varied interests and perspectives.  

Financial and operational expertise: Successful experience leading budgets, financial reporting, internal controls, operational services, and the responsible stewardship of public resources. 

Ability to build effective systems: A record of designing, improving, and sustaining efficient processes, accountability structures, and technology-enabled practices that strengthen service and performance.

Focused Leadership Area’s 

Serve as the district’s senior leader for non-instructional operations, ensuring that financial and operational services advance the district mission and support every student’s success. ? Partner with the Superintendent, Board of Education, district leaders, staff, families, and community stakeholders to translate priorities into sound financial and operational plans.

 Lead development, administration, monitoring, and communication of the district budget, including financial reporting, internal controls, transaction processing, long range financial planning, and compliance with school finance requirements and state law. 

Build and continuously improve effective, transparent systems that strengthen accountability, service quality, efficiency, and informed decision-making. 

 Oversee the business office, student transportation, facilities management, network technology, food service, and other non-instructional support services. 

Ensure compliance with New York State aid formulas, federal grant requirements, audit standards, applicable school law, and district policy. 

Play a leadership role in labor-management relations and contract negotiations with multiple bargaining units. 

Direct purchasing and ensure that quotes, bids, and requests for proposals are prepared and released in accordance with New York State statutes and district policy. 

Coordinate payroll and employee and retiree benefits. 

Provide oversight for capital projects, renovations, facilities management, and support staff services. 

Use technology thoughtfully to improve workflows, controls, access to information, and organizational effectiveness. 

Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

Community: Guilderland is a residential community covering 66 square miles adjacent to Albany and near Schenectady. Many of its 38,000 residents are attracted to the community because of its excellent school system and its proximity to major area employers such as The State University of New York at Albany, Albany Medical Center and New York State Government. 

School District: The Guilderland Central School District has five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district serves approximately 4,900 students and enjoys a strong reputation for academic excellence and commitment to meeting the needs of the whole child.

 

 

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

Valid New York State School Business Administrator (SBA) or School District Business Leader (SDBL) certification, or qualifications that meet Albany County Civil Service requirements. 

At least five years of successful experience as an Assistant Superintendent for Business, School Business Official, or in a comparable leadership role.
