Job Description:
Reading Teacher Assistant
The GHS Reading Department seeks a Teacher Assistant (TA) who is committed to supporting student literacy growth and achievement as it relates to critical thinking, grade-level reading fluency, engaging with and writing from texts, and understanding (and interpreting) how language affects meaning. The prospective Reading TA will work closely with a team of two Reading Teachers and two Reading TAs to provide remedial literacy support to high school students in grades nine through twelve. Prior experience in reading, literacy, English Language Arts, and/or special education is preferred.
Potential Reading Teacher Assistants will need to demonstrate capacity in the following areas:
Knowledge & Skills
- Able to support students using a variety of instructional resources and learning strategies
- Carry out the organization of instructional materials and provide educational support for students under the direction of the Reading teacher
- Monitor and reinforce skills and concepts previously taught by the Reading teacher in individual or small group learning situations
- Provide Reading teachers with information about student learning which will inform crafting appropriate remedial curricular and/or skill development plans for individual and groups of students
Communication
- Communicate with Reading teachers, Reading Teacher Assistants, students, and other educators/support staff to collaboratively support student success
- Write legibly and speak clearly, using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation, among other convention
