Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree with certification of students with disabilities grades 1-6. Preference will be given to those with SWD B-2 and literacy certification in addition to SWD 1-6.

Special Education Teacher Elementary-Self-Contained (1.0 FTE)-Leave of Absence

Guilderland Central School District seeks to fill a Leave of Absence Elementary Special Education Self-Contained Teacher (Grades K-2) from November 2024 to February 2025. The position is located at Guilderland Elementary School and is a self-contained special class for grades K-2 with a ratio of 8 students, 1 teacher, and 4 paraprofessionals. Student composition of the self-contained classroom includes students who may be eligible for the New York State Alternative Assessment exams and have delays in cognition, communication, and adaptive behavior skills. All students have developmental disabilities including autism, cognitive impairments or multiple disabilities. Starting date is November 13, 2024.
Qualifications:
- Must hold the following certifications: NYS Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6. Multiple certifications preferred including NYS Students with Disabilities Birth-Grade 2 and/ or NYS Certification in Literacy.
- Individuals must possess good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, be well organized, as well as have an understanding of elementary curriculum, IEPs, and modifications.
- Experience with behavior interventions, curriculum modifications, and working as a team are essential.
- Candidates must work collaboratively with related service providers and general education teachers.
