Elementary Library Media Specialist

Minimum Job Requirements: 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) or School Library Media preferred. Valid state certification as a school librarian. Experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting preferred. Strong knowledge of children’s literature and library best practices. Excellent organizational, communication, and technology skills. Creativity and enthusiasm for promoting reading and lifelong learning. 

Pine Bush Elementary School is seeking a passionate, creative, and highly organized Elementary School Librarian to join our dedicated team of educators. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative professional who loves working with children and is committed to fostering a love of reading, supporting literacy instruction, and managing a dynamic and engaging library environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organized school library.
• Foster a love of reading by curating diverse and age-appropriate book collections.
• Plan and lead engaging library lessons that support literacy and information literacy standards.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources into curriculum and instruction.
• Support students in developing research skills and responsible digital citizenship.
• Community outreach including reading programs and other literacy-promoting events.
• Maintain library technology and manage library systems, including cataloging and circulation.
• Ensure a safe and nurturing environment where all students feel encouraged and supported.

Preferred Qualities:

• Experience with library automation systems (e.g., Follett Destiny).
• Familiarity with educational technology and digital media tools.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families.
