| Elementary Teaching Assistant | | ELEMENTARY TEACHING ASSISTANT Minimum Job Requirements: New York State Teaching Assistant Certification (Level I, II, or III) or eligibility to obtain certification. Job Description: We are seeking an Elementary Teaching Assistant to work in our Comprehensive Skills Class to support the classroom teacher in providing individualized instruction and assistance to students with diverse learning needs. This position plays a key role in helping students develop academic, social, communication, and daily living skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. The teaching assistant works collaboratively with the teacher and related service providers to ensure each student has access to meaningful and appropriate learning experiences. Responsibilities: -
Support the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students. -
Assist in delivering instructional activities, reinforcing lessons, and supporting small-group or one-on-one learning. -
Support students in developing independence in academic, social, and self-help skills. -
Provide behavioral and emotional support using positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies. -
Assist students with personal care needs as required (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility). -
Prepare and organize classroom materials and learning centers under the direction of the teacher. -
Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times. -
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to maintain a consistent and supportive learning environment. -
Collect and record data on student progress and behavior as directed by the teacher. -
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school and district policies and procedures. -
Participate in professional development and staff meetings as assigned. Qualifications: -
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred. -
New York State Teaching Assistant Certification (Level I, II, or III) or eligibility to obtain certification. -
Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those with special needs, preferred. -
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills. -
Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude in working with students who have a range of abilities and needs. Work Environment: The position involves working in a classroom setting that serves students with a variety of developmental and learning differences.
