Bldg. Maintenance Utility Worker 

Minimum Job Requirements: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience in either general building maintenance or building trade work in one or more standard trades; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
These duties involve performing a variety of mechanical and building maintenance tasks and the cleaning of buildings and grounds.  These maintenance skills involve work in carpentry, electrical and painting operations. In addition, the work may involve the part-time operation of a truck, automobile or other automotive equipment.  General instructions are received and work is performed under general supervision, depending upon the task. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Performs semi-skilled work in carpentry, electrical, and painting operations;
  • Performs minor maintenance on doors, windows, locks, lighting, and plumbing fixtures, lockers, and heating/air conditioning systems;
  • Works from powered scaffolds or ladders to change light bulbs, repair light fixtures, hookup special light arrays;
  • Operates controls for distribution of building heat, air conditioning, lighting and sound systems;
  • Performs general maintenance of buildings and grounds, which includes mowing lawns, pruning shrubs, collecting paper and debris;
  • Plows snow, clears sidewalks of ice and snow, operates powered salt/ sand dispensing equipment;
  • Performs cleaning tasks such a mopping floors, graffiti removal, trash removal and dust mopping;
  • Locks and unlocks classroom and exterior doors;
  • Serves as a general handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Good knowledge of modern buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices; knowledge of the practices and techniques of one or more of the standard trades;
  • Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment;
  • Ability to follow oral instructions;

Custodial Worker - 2nd Shift

Custodial Worker - 2nd Shift

Job Description:


SUMMARY:
The Custodial Worker works under the supervision of the Head Custodian, Custodial Supervisor, and the Assistant Director of Facilities, and performs manual work in cleaning and caring of school district property.  The Custodial Worker also does minor maintenance tasks.  While performing the duties of this job, the custodial worker is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk and hear.  The Custodial Worker must frequently lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Sweeps and mops floors, corridors, and stairs.
  • Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks, and other fixtures.
  • Empties waste baskets, collects, and disposes of rubbish.
  • Vacuums and waxes floors.
  • Moves furniture and arranges chairs, tables, and other equipment.
  • Clears snow and ice from walks, stairs, and pathways.
  • Mows lawns, rakes leaves, and performs a variety of outside grounds keeping activities as assigned.
  • Delivers packages, messages, and equipment.
  • Cares for furnace and boiler room equipment.
  • Paints rooms and equipment and assists in making minor, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
  • Monitors and reports vandalism to school property.
  • Gives directions to visitors and assists with outside activities. 

RELATED EXPECTATIONS:
The Custodial Worker should demonstrate the ability to meet work schedules and maintain output of work under normal conditions.  Regular attendance, dependability, acceptance of responsibility, willingness to follow established procedures, cooperation with supervisors and fellow employees and ability to react appropriately to changing work conditions are normal expectations of the job. 

The Custodial Worker must be able to follow simple oral and written instructions.
