Job Description:

As a Bus Monitor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their bus transportation to and from school.

  • Assist the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment on the bus
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce bus rules to ensure a respectful and peaceful atmosphere.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including assisting with seating arrangements and securing mobility devices
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding any concerns or incidents that may arise during the bus ride
  • Collaborate with the bus driver to address any emergency situations or medical needs that may occur during transportation
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and behavior incidents for reporting purposes

Automotive Mechanic - Continuous Recruitment

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

Employees in this class perform skilled work involving the responsibility for the complete overhaul and repair of a variety of automotive equipment and related types of machinery, particularly industrial vehicles.  Incumbent duties involve the same work as Automotive Mechanic II except for the most complex equipment.  General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed, but considerable leeway is permitted in planning the details of each assignment.  Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Overhauls and rebuilds gasoline motors, transmissions, differentials;

  • Carburetors including trucks, power shovels, tractors, air compressors, bulldozers, cement mixers and other related equipment;

  • May maintain heavy automotive and diesel equipment including but not limited to dump trucks, loaders, back-hoes and graders;

  • Repairs or replaces electrical and electronic ignition systems;

  • Mounts snow plows, sanders and auxiliary equipment and connects hydraulic systems to vehicles;

  • Makes welding repairs to automotive equipment;

  • Repairs or replaces fuel pumps, generators, alternators and starters;

  • Tunes engines and sets the timing;

  • Attaches snow plows, sanders and other auxiliary equipment;

  • Repairs machinery such as clippers, stumpers, patching rollers, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

One (1) year of experience as a skilled automotive repairman or ab AOS Degree from an accredited school.

Note: In the Albany County Department of Public Works the one (1) year of experience as a skilled automotive repairman must have included working with diesel equipment.

Special Requirements: The position involves the operation of a school bus. Candidates must be 21 years of age and obtain a Valid class “B” license with passenger (P) and school bus (s) endorsements, issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, within the first 6 months of appointment.
